Percy Park RFC 150th Celebration Sevens Competition

With four senior teams, including a Woman’s side playing in the National League, a comprehensive junior setup and celebrating 150 years of experience and tradition, Percy Park is one of North Tyneside's premier amateur rugby clubs. And to acknowledge that sesquicentennial year of being we are delighted to invite all supporters of the game of rugby and sport in general to join together with Percy Park RFC on Saturday 21st May 2022 as we host an Elite and Social Sevens Tournament for men and women to celebrate our anniversary.
Our event sponsored by Wade Financial, PGS Law and GOBI Consultancy has attracted many of the top seven’s teams in the country. Teams that include current holders Cleveland Cougars, Akuma Beavers, NSB Old Boys, Stockport RFC, Tropics from Leeds, Southport RFC, Arbertilly RFC, South of Scotland and many, many more. The competition will be fierce and for the observer enthralling.

Whilst the teams compete a Food Court, Beer Tent and a Coffee bar will assist with refreshment and if you are a connoisseur of beer a festival will be held within the clubhouse where you can sample over 40 local craft beers and ciders. As the evening progresses live music and DJ’s will keep you entertained.
Founded in 1872, Percy Park has the distinction of being one of the oldest rugby clubs in the North East. The side has spent the majority of its 150 years playing on the pitches at Preston Avenue, North Shields making the same its home in 1896.
Throughout its existence Percy Park has fostered a reputation as one of England’s best known amateur sides, playing the Barbarians on three occasions around the turn of the century and hosting the All Blacks for their game against Northumberland in 1905. Over the years, players such as George Carmichael ‘Tot’ Robinson, Carston ‘Catchy’ Catcheside and Don Rutherford went on to win caps at international level, some representing the Red Rose and others taking part in British & Irish Lions tours.
"We're thrilled to be serving as one of Percy Park RFC's proud sponsors," says Wade Financial Associate Ian Little. "We are always keen to support local clubs that have an impact on the community, and their focus on junior development from such a young age can only inspire more kids to get in the game. We're looking forward to continuing our partnership with the club, and hope that it can prove beneficial over the next few years. I hope that all attending today can appreciate the hard work Percy Park has made in creating friendship through sport”

Barry Smith of GOBI Consultancy “Having supported Percy Park over the last 12 seasons, It’s a great privilege to be able to support the club in its 150th year. The 1872 Sevens tournament will welcome friends old and new and I sincerely wish all the players, referees and supporters a fabulous day”
