Driffield 32 - 6 Percy Park

Percy Park gave Driffield a shock, and it wasn't until injury time that the Kellythorpe side put the game out of reach.

Percy Park made the journey to Driffield hoping to continue the form which saw recent victories against Durham City and Whitley Bay Rockcliff. There were two enforced changes to the side with Michael Langlands coming in at blind side for Greg Dixon who decided to take a last minute holiday (in the rugby season!), and David Griffiths moved to fullback for the holidaying Liam Casey.

Driffield opened the scoring after only 2 minutes, with debutant Hata Wilson scoring wide out after referee Andy Howells missed an obvious knock on. There was plenty of commitment on both sides which frequently spilled over into minor altercations between both sets of forwards, and in an incident between Park no 8 Brett Sylph and Driffield's Mei, the later was sin binned for a punch.

With only 14 men on the field it was Driff that scored next with Ali McClaron returning to the side after injury. Scrum half Craig Gray made good the conversion and then slotted a penalty not long after to give the home side a 15 points to nil lead. An injury soon after to Mark Walton saw Mark Clarkson come on to the field and Park's back line was rearranged.

A double blow came when Park lock Carl Griffiths was given a red card after a fracas between several of the forwards. Some how when faced with adversity the team lifted their game a with 2 penalty kicks by Rutter the score at half time was 15 - 6 and Park were by no means out of the game.

In the second half both sides were unable to break the other's defences with Park having the better of the forward exchanges and Driffield opting to kick away a good deal of their possession. In this physical game Park's injured Michael Langlands was replaced by Tom Heenan and then on 65 minutes Driffield's Vanston Cook had to retire from the game with a gashed forehead.

Several minutes elapsed with much discussion between the home side and the referee who then advised the game would continue with static scrums. Park attacked through driving mauls from the line out to good effect, but elected to give the ball out to the back line that were unable to break the solid Driifield defensive line.

With almost 80 minutes up and the numerical advantage, Driffield scored with a try by young Lee Birch who caught a well weighted Jone's cross field kick to move the score on to 20 - 6. This gave the Kellythorpe side confidence, and 2 further tries were scored during the 9 minutes of injury time, by Furbank and Gray.

Next week Park entertain Sheffield Tigers at Preston Avenue KO 2.15 pm.

In the other games Percy Park Lions won 34 - 19 but the Marauders lost 7 - 12 away to Blyth.
