Percy Park's second team continued their winning ways with a sound performance away at Sunderland, and completed the double over the Wearsiders who Park had narrowly beaten with a last minute penalty in the earlier encounter at Preston Avenue.
Conditions at Ashbrooke suited the visitor's more free flowing game, and it was Percy Park who opened the scoring with a try by Findlay going over in the corner from a miss pass after number 8 Langlands had picked up at the base of a five metre scrum. Phil Morse kicked the difficult conversion and Park were leading 7 - 0.
The home side soon replied after a catch and drive from a line out close to the Percy Park line but the fly half was unable to convert.
The pattern of the game soon settled into a routine where the bigger Sunderland pack won more line outs and scrummages, but their backs were unable to capitalise on the greater possession. Percy Park on the other hand ran the ball freely from defence, and counter attacked with good effect.
Park scored next, again from a scrum with Langlands picking and passing to Andrew Dunn who was standing in at scrum half for the day. Andrew linked with brother Tony who offloaded again to Langlands who put fullback Vickers in under the posts. Unfortunately Morse snatched at the conversion and missed narrowly.
Shortly before half time Sunderland drew level when their hooker crashed over the line after good possession was gained from a line out that was driven up to the Park try line.
At the break some reorganisation to the line out won the visitors some valuable second half ball but it was Sunderland who scored from a 5 metre scrum awarded by the referee instead of allowing Park a 22 drop out after the ball had gone dead from a Sunderland kick and chase. The push over try was not converted.
At this stage the Ashbrooke side looked favourites to take the game, until Findlay scored his second try. Park drove a maul some 30 yards up field and the ball was then released with Morse throwing a miss pass to Vickers coming into the line drawing the last man for the winger to score.
Percy Park regained the lead with a try by Love after some good interplay between Langlands and Dunn with the centre breaking several tackles to score, with Morse converting. As the game came to a close, Park sealed the win with a fine individual effort from Wes Casey whose strength and determination took him over the line with Phil Morse making good the conversion to take the final score to 31 - 17 to the vistors.
It was a good day all round for Percy Park as the Pumas, Park's third team defeated Whitley Bay Rockcliff II 25 -12. Tries came from McPherson (2) and Tony Turner (2). Turner also kicked a penalty and conversion.
Percy Park Marauders also had a convincing win at home to Whitley Bay Rockcliff III winning 49 - 15. The try scorers were Beers (2), Lohoar, Todd, Wilson, Rhodes, Skeldon (2) and Davies. Burns kicked 2 conversions.
