Park travelled through the smog of the A19 with a hastily rearranged side, and an ample supply of back issues of the beano for the back of the shorts, in anticipation of receiving six of the best from the league champions.
Although the scoreline doesn't look great from a Park perspective, there were some positives and the side never gave up. At half time and 48 points behind, the signs were looking ominous particularly when the wee man in charge of the score board when in search of some bigger numbers from his pals at the ajoining cricket club.
Park started brightly enough with several phases of play and retaining possesion, but a gifted interception gave Boro's number 8 Richie Barker the first of his 2 tries and the easiest 5 points the home side are likely to receive all season.
Middlesbrough's second try was a well worked effort after good ruck ball produced quick possesion and the ball was spun wide to left wing Ross McNeil to score in the corner.
Despite their sternest efforts the young Park side couldn't really cope with the more experienced Boro side which contained several players with Premiership experience. A procession of tries followed and at half time Park were down by 48 points although in the second half had the advantage of a strong wind at their backs.
The nearest Park came to scoring was when Marcus Turner was stopped short after a surging run through the Middlesbrough defence. Credit to the boys, they spurned several kickable penalties which may have made the scoreline look a litlle more respectable, in an effort to cross the whitewash.
The home side only managed 2 scores in the second period, both slightly dubious at that, but not taking anything away from them , they fully deserved their comprehensive victory and the title of North 2 East League Champions 2006/7.
Next week the Ist XV have a free week, but return to action with in the Northumberland Senior Cup at home to Berwick on Wednesday 28th March kick of 7pm.
