Westoe 18 Percy Park 23

Park travelled across to Westoe to play an exciting and keenly contested fixture.

Facing up to a large skillful side Park played with the wind and slope in the first half and soon were awarded a penalty for offside in midfield, successfully kicked by Zac Rutter. The game was another good advert for colts rugby with both sides playing committed, skillful rugby. Westoe had a slight edge in the scrums though Park soon countered this by swapping tighthead and loosehead over to give a more stable platform to work from. Good work from Scott Taylor going down a wide blindside from an attacking scrum enabled him to offload to Aaron Cottingham for the winger to go over, converted by Jack Dent to make the score 0 - 10. Zac Rutter kicked another penalty before Westoe scored a try in the corner but were unable to convert. Park finished the half with a great attacking backs move resulting in Jack Dent diving over in the corner, unconverted, to make the half time score 5 - 18.

Against the conditions (and some very large forwards) Park spent some time defending but couldn't stop a drive over the line for a Westoe score to close the gap to 10 - 18. Despite this and having to defend Park tried hard to counter attack with some of the forward interplay and exchanges being a delight to watch.Westoe again went over for another try to set up an exciting finish to the game. A Matthew Atkinson break set up sustained possession inside Westoe's 22, and following a number of penalties Scott Taylor crashed over to settle Park's nerves a little. (15 - 23). Westoe replied with a penalty and then found that Park strangled the life out of the game with the forwards picking and driving a metre at a time for a good five minutes to run the clock down to the final whistle. A super game of rugby played against good opposition with a number of fine individual performances, none so more than Park's captain Sean Williamson who led from the front throughout the game.

Final Score Westoe 18  Percy Park 23

Man of the match: Sean Williamson
