Sorry for the late report, but I've been busy with the final arrangements for the Dinner Dance.
Park started brightly and took the lead after only 2 minutes with a well struck penalty by Brett Sylph. In fairness Park had most of the possession in the first half but couldn't make it count with two relatively easy penalties chances going begging.
Rovers scored their first try courtesy of Gareth Foreman who was the real difference between the two sides on the day. Park were penalised on their 22 and following dissent were marched back 10 metres. Foreman took a quick tap, caught the Percy Park defence having a nap, and waltzed in under the posts, also converting his own try to take the lead 7 - 3.
Park missed several clear cut try scoring opportunities, the first, when Liam Casey carved through the home side defence and ran half the length of the pitch only to be stopped short by a desperate cover tackle by Andrew Lilley just short of the line, with no back up in sight.
The second chance came after a good passage of play with the ball being passed through several pairs of hands, and Thomas Turnbull coming into the line from full back. Unfortunately Jon Carlile was unable to hold on to the pass that would have seen him in at the corner.
Park were the better side in the first half, but at the break Rovers coach Kevin Westgarth obviously had words with the home side who adopted a more pragmatic approach in the second half in an attempt to hold on to the ball and starve Park of possession.
Rovers scored their second try with Andrew Lilley touching down in the corner, and that man Foreman finished the match off with an individual effort to take the final score to 17 - 3.
Rovers did the double on Park with their seconds winning by a 5 point margin at Preston Ave. (No one seems to know the score).
Roll on the summer!
