Despite the week long torrential rain, today's 1st XV game v Sunderland goes ahead KO 3pm.

The 1st XV pitch is flooded in parts so the game will take place on the far pitch so bring your boots or wellies.

Access to the pitch is around the permiter past the main stand due to some standing water at the east end of the pitch.

The club house will be open for food and drinks at 12.30pm

Following a pitch inspection this morning the 1st XV league game against Wigton is ON.

Whilst the 1st XV pitch is still 50/50 the 2nd XV pitch is playable so if the game can't be played on the main pitch it will go ahead on the far pitch.

As a result the kick off time has been brought forward to 2pm.

Percy Park Colts regained the Albi Durhin Cup after a thrilling 29-34 win at Hillheads on Boxing Day, the now regular curtain raiser to the senior game. With a large crowd looking on, both teams produced a superb game of rugby with both Whitley Bay President Ritchie Bloomfield and myself commenting that it was probably the best game of rugby, at any level, that we have seen this season.

Rockcliff started brilliantly, three magnificent tries from their excellent backline opening a 19-0 lead early in the match but the Park lads steadied and slowly but surely narrowed the game with some excellent tries of their own. It was nip and tuck throughout, Park deservedly coming out on top through tries from Hiro Brannigan, Josh Robertson, Nathan Bailey and a brace from George Bogg who also kicked three conversions and a penalty goal.

A memorable game played in a great spirit, both teams a credit to their respective clubs.

This Saturday the 1st XV make the short journey to Durham City for a Regional 2 North league encounter with (at the moment) the Lions who are scheduled to play Durham seconds. Both games are due to kick off at 2pm. Injuries and unavailability have caused selection headaches and it may be that insufficient numbers mean that the Lions game at Hollow Drift does not take place.

On Sunday, the Panthers entertain close rivals Rockcliff, KO at Preston Avenue is at 2pm.

There is the usual TV sports coverage in the Clubhouse bars including, of course, on Sunday Sunderland vs Newcastle Utd (KO 2pm)
