Percy Park made the best possible start to their league campaign with a convincing win against Durham & Northumberland 1 new boys Ashington. Mark Walton captained the side in the absence of Brett Sylph, and Joe Wafer came in to the back row for the injured Greg Dixon.
While the thoroughbreds on the Ist XV pitch refused at the first hurdle, the carthorses were let loose on the adjacent farmers field, and put on a fine display of rugby in bitter conditions to entertain the crowd disappointed that the league and cup double header was not to take place.
Another mid week game for the Lions, Park’s Development team, and another entertaining match, which I’m sure benefited both clubs. Seghill have struggled over the last 2 seasons, and it is good for club rugby in Northumberland that they are now able to field two regular teams.
