Wade Financial supports Adam Hay

Percy Park's Development Officer

Percy Park RFC has joined forces with The Royal Foundation Coach Core apprentice programme in providing an exciting opportunity for a young person to gain work experience, whilst receiving high quality training and recognisable qualifications in their chosen sport. That person is 1st XV player Adam Hay. The programme is supported by Tyne and Wear Sport and the RFU development team in Northumberland.

The apprenticeship project is aimed at developing the game of rugby around our local area. The intention of the scheme is to improve numbers of players within the junior section of our club. Percy Park Juniors are our ‘lifeblood’ …all we need to do is look at our senior sides on a Saturday to recognize that fact. Adam is further tasked to stimulate the game of rugby in our schools and assist with the transition of our older junior players into the senior sides. He is charged to do all of this whilst promoting the enjoyment of playing rugby at Percy Park RFC. No mean task!

Wade Financial Chartered Financial Planners have embraced this concept. In doing so have provided Percy Park with their support to help Adam deliver his project. Wade Financial have championed Percy Park Rugby for many years and have always looked to encourage young people’s involvement in sport. Percy Park will always be indebted for their sponsorship, they have our thanks.

Adam is one of 18 ‘Coach Core’ apprentices and as course leader Ruth Nicholson, Workforce Development Manager for Tyne & Wear Sport said, “Through this exciting new programme we are able to link young people who are currently seeking work opportunities in sport development, with employers who can provide a positive, engaging and rewarding experience. At the end of the experience they will be more employable and ultimately be part of a greater coaching service to engage, motivate and inspire their communities.”

To give you a little more background the apprentices began their placements at the end of 2019. As well as practical sport development work with their employers, they will learn about other areas of the businesses such as event organising and marketing. Education will also be a significant part of the programme, with each apprentice working towards a Level 2 Community Activator Coach and receiving training in a wide range of related topics including safeguarding, inclusive coaching and first aid.

This is the first time the programme has been run in Tyne & Wear and will lead the way for similar programmes across England over the next three years.
Driven by a desire to build upon the legacy of the Olympic Games, Coach Core was created by The Royal Foundation to inspire young people who are not in education or employment through sport, and create the next generation of sports coaches who will themselves go on to inspire their communities for many more generations to come…….In creating this opportunity Percy Park are joined (amongst others) by Newcastle United, The National Trust and Durham County Cricket Club.

PERCY PARK 52 – 21 PONTELAND

Durham and Northumberland 1 side Ponteland travelled to Preston Avenue with a squad of players for a warm up game against the Park senior squad, with both clubs still missing some key players due to holidays and unavailability.

The game, played over 4 quarters in brilliant sunshine was a good work out for both sides, with Pont having been promoted as champions of D&N 2 looking to test themselves against higher league opposition in the run up the league season proper on 5th September. The players were also glad of the 24 hour downpour the previous day which made the playing surface a little more yielding.

The Percy Park forwards dominated the first quarter, starving the visitors of any meaningful possession and opened the scoring on 7 minutes as George Purdy barged over for the try. Seven minutes later Ethan Wilson, playing at number 8 scored a try converted by Alex Richards.

Pont hit back with a try by their inside centre who cut through a gap in the Park midfield to score under the posts, and with the conversion the home side led 12 – 7 at the first break.
